Double L Country Store an Cafe was first created to to help fulfill a need in our community.   With no dinning establishments with in a twenty mile radius we are considered a  food desert.   However,  we are in a prime area to obtain food  from local farmers and ranchers.   Our  menu  features locally grown ingredients,  such as coffee, beef, pork, bison, eggs, chickens, potatoes, cheese, fruits and vegetables when available.   Making Double L Country Store a true "Farm to table experience!"

Who We Are

Owners Dave and Laura Whelchel live 20 miles from the cafe's locate on a small farm in Banner County.  Laura manages the day to day operations of the Double L and does baking. .   Dave works south of Kimball, helping at the café whenever he can.

Our History

Our building was built in the late 1950's early 60's.  It has always been a cafe of sorts.  However, over the years the cafe has seen its ups and downs along with many name changes.  However, the name that is most remembered by the locals is the HIlltop Cafe.   along with several changes in ownership.  Each owner did their part to leave their mark on the building with up grades and many, many down grades.  Eventually,  the cafe sat empty for several years, leaving the building in a state of  deterioration.  We purchased the building in February of 2013 and began a total renovation inside and out.   Double L Country Store and Cafe was opened November 17, 2015
